Customer Reviews
Somewhat incomplete
While this is an informative book, especially concerning Microsoft
networking utilities and features, there were definitely some areas on
the Network+ 2009 N10-004 test (just took it today, and passed, but not
as well as I would have liked) that were not well covered in this book.
The areas that could definitely use more attention were CIDR-based
sub-netting and physical facility equipment and tools. There was a lot
of emphasis on troubleshooting scenarios as well. While the book
(content/quizzes/test) focuses many questions around Microsoft
tools/utilities, I experienced next to no Microsoft-centric questions on
the actual test. (The test is actually very vendor neutral)
I realize it is not easy to create a test prep book like this, and I
appreciate authors like Glen providing these resources. But at the same
time, it is hard for any book to provide all possible knowledge needed
for a test like this.
Well written book
I'm using the book to facilitate a group that is studying for the
certification exam. The book is well written and easy to understand.
However, there is a lot of detail in the book that is a challenge for
those indviduals who do not have a lot of networking experience to
ingest. The self-test questions are very helpful, especially since
explanations are provided that identify why the wrong answers are wrong
and correct answers are correct. The "exam watch" hints are also a
benefit, as they add emphasis to concepts that are important to know for
the sake of passing the exam. Overall, it is a good study aid for the
Network + certification.
Network +
The book is good and well written. This is a good book for the exam
and explains the concepts well, but you will need another such as the
CompTia Sybex book. The Sybex book has diagrams that you will need and
should be copied and memorized, such as the speeds of all fiber cables
and what size laser lights pass through each different fiber cable.
